WABASH COMBINATION DEPOT

The Wabash Combination Depot in Moravia, IA was a railway station that was built in 1900 by the Wabash Railroad Company. The station was located at the corner of Main Street and Depot Street in the center of Moravia. The building served both passengers and freight, and it was designed in the standard Wabash style of the early 20th century.

The depot was a one-story wooden structure with a gabled roof and a red-brick foundation. The exterior was painted in a light yellow color and had a distinctive red trim. The building had a waiting room for passengers, a ticket office, and a baggage room. On the freight side of the building, there was a loading dock and a large warehouse for storing goods.

The Wabash Combination Depot was an important transportation hub for the small town of Moravia. It served as a connection point for passengers traveling to and from larger cities and also facilitated the shipment of goods from local farmers and merchants. The station was in operation until the 1960s when the decline of rail travel led to its closure. Today, the building stands as a historic landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
