CONNERSVILLE, IN

Connersville, Indiana is a historic town located in Fayette County. Founded in 1814 by Abraham Conner, the town was named in his honor and is the county seat. Connersville was a thriving hub of activity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, with a bustling downtown, industrial factories, and a large agricultural population. The town was once known as the “Furniture Capital of the Midwest” because of the numerous furniture factories that were located there.

Early settlers to the area were primarily of German, Irish, and English descent. In the late 1800s, the town grew even larger with the arrival of immigrants from Italy, Greece, and Eastern Europe. Connersville was also a major stop on the Underground Railroad and was home to many abolitionists.

Today, Connersville is a charming town of about 13,000 people. The downtown area is still bustling, with many locally owned shops and restaurants, as well as a Saturday morning farmers market. The town also boasts several historic buildings, including the Conner House Museum, the Connersville High School, and the Connersville Carnegie Library. The Fayette County Historical Society is located in town and maintains an extensive collection of artifacts and archives that tell the story of the town's past.
