The La Porte County Historical Steam Society is a non-profit organization located in La Porte, Indiana. The society is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of La Porte County, Indiana, and its surrounding areas. Through the preservation and operation of steam-powered equipment, the Society hopes to continue to educate and entertain the public in the significance and importance of the steam age.
The Society was established in 1981, and is a member of the National Association of Sesquicentennial Organizations. Through their efforts, the Society has collected, preserved, and restored many steam-driven equipment and artifacts, such as steam-powered locomotives, traction engines, threshing machines, sawmills, and more.
The Society is also involved in educational programming, such as summer camps and field trips. They offer a variety of events throughout the year, such as threshing and steam shows, tractor pulls, antique tractor shows, and more. Additionally, the Society offers guided tours of the museum and demonstrations of how steam-powered equipment works.
