HISTORIC LANDMARKS OF FOUNTAIN COUNTY

ATTICA, IN

This Vexes Me Just west of Otterbein, IN is a small grain elevator at Foresman, though it is no longer rail served as evidenced by the cut switch. This portion of the New York Central was dually operated - and I think even dually owned - by the NYC and the Nickel Plate Road. Not much remains as evidence towards either one, mostly just junk is strewn around. We're nearing the end of the eastbound run of the KBS for the day, though even then we won't be done quite yet. It's quite a leisurely chase, which is a nice change of pace!

Fountain County, located in the western part of Indiana, boasts several historic landmarks that attract visitors from near and far. Attica, the county seat, is home to many of these landmarks.

One of the most notable landmarks is the Harrison Steel Castings Company. Founded in 1906, the company is still in operation today and is a significant contributor to the local economy. Visitors can take a tour of the facility to see how steel is made and learn about the history of the company.

Another landmark in Attica is the Badlands Off-Road Park. This 800-acre park offers off-road enthusiasts the opportunity to ride ATVs, dirt bikes, and other off-road vehicles on the hilly terrain. The park also has camping facilities for those who want to stay overnight.

The Attica Main Street Historic District is another popular attraction. The district includes several historic buildings, including the Attica Opera House, which was built in 1893 and is still used for performances today. Other buildings in the district include the Masonic Lodge, the Attica Public Library, and the Attica City Hall.

Other notable landmarks in Fountain County include the Cades Mill Covered Bridge, which was built in 1871 and is the only covered bridge in the county still in use, and the Fowler Theatre, a historic movie theater in the town of Fowler that was built in 1940 and is still in operation today.
