The James Willard Schultz Lone Wolf Museum Inc. in Scottsdale, Arizona is a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of the famous Native American writer, adventurer, and ethnographer James Willard Schultz. The museum was established in 1993 by his daughter and son-in-law, and features artifacts, photographs, and writings from Schultz's life, as well as rare and historically significant Native American items. The museum is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, and offers a variety of educational programs, such as lectures and interactive activities for children.
Schultz, also known as "Lone Wolf," had a long career as an author and explorer. He wrote more than 40 books, including his autobiography, My Life as an Indian, which was published posthumously in 1907. He was an early advocate for Native American rights and was an eyewitness to some of the most important events in western history, such as the Battle of the Little Bighorn and Wounded Knee. In addition to his writing, he also served as an official photographer for the US government, capturing some of the last images of Native American life before it was changed by white settlers.
The Lone Wolf Museum preserves and honors Schultz's memory and the significant impact he had on the Native American community. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about the history of the Native American people and the life and works of James Willard Schultz.
